Where To Go And What To Do
Canal du Midi
In the 17th Century, the engineering feat
Canal du Midi was built from Bordeaux to Marseilles, passing within
walking distance of LE CLOS DE VIGNERNON.
The Canal is dotted with lovely villages to visit, canal side restaurants,
boat & bicycle rentals, & tow paths used by walkers and bicyclists.
The boating activity is high in summer, allowing you to sit at a café
and watch the world glide past!
LE CLOS DE VIGNERNON
is perfect for doing nothing except relaxing !…..but IF you
wish to explore, its central location is a bonus for a holiday packed
with variety. LE CLOS DE VIGNERNON is well
placed ½ hour from the Mediterranean beaches----St. Pierre
Plage & Narbonne Plage are just two, and Narbonne Plage has a
water Park; there are small shops and cafes dotted along the coast
roads.

Narbonne
The Roman town of Narbonne, once a thriving
seaport, but now inland, has a beautiful cathedral and central square
thriving with restaurants & cafes & plenty of shops to discover
along the winding narrow Medieval streets. A section of The Via Domita,
the original Roman Road, is a fascinating feature.
The indoor food market, Les Halles, built at the turn of the century,
is a must!
Also nearby is the African Reserve at Sigean, open all year round.
One hour north takes you into the Haute Languedoc,
home of the Knights Templars of the Crusades, through the stunning
mountain gorges complete with caves, ruined Cathar fortresses &
castles, & stunning villages, such as Minerve. Also about an hour
away is the newly opened Highest Bridge in the World, designed by
Sir Norman Foster & built by the same company that built the Eiffel
Tower….located in Millau, it finishes the Paris to South of
France highway!
Regardless of the direction, you will enjoy
stunning scenery dotted with olive groves; wild lavender, heather,
basil, and rosemary scenting your walks; and acres upon acre of finely
cultivated vineyards and their Wine Caves opening their vistas to
you, inviting you in to stop and sample their wares.

Carcassone
To the West in less than an hour is the fascinating
and massive Medieval fortress city of Carcasonne, packed with leafy
squares and restaurants, with amazing fireworks on Bastille Day. A
bit further is the sophisticated city of Toulouse with wonderful squares
and shopping, and nearby is beautiful Albi with its Toulouse Lautrec
Museum. Further west are the Pyrenee Mountains & the fishing village
of Collioure where Matisse lived & painted, and 2 ½ hours
from your doorstep is Barcelona, with its famous Gaudi architecture.

Beziers
To the East of LE CLOS DE VIGNERNON
– A half an hour takes you to Bezier, well worth a visit, and
further along the villages of Cap d’Agde, Sete and Meze, packed
with seafood restaurants, the estangs of the Mediterranean with oyster
beds, salt marshes, & the largest bird sanctuary in Europe, complete
with acres of flamingos! Further along is the beautiful city of Montpelier,
